Wild Navy read

This is a wild read.

How Navy chiefs conspired to get themselves illegal warship Wi-Fi
A scathing Navy investigation reveals how USS Manchester’s enlisted leaders endangered their ship with an unauthorized Starlink Wi-Fi setup.

You can have ALL the security infrastructure, access management, policies, logging and monitoring in place. Most companies don’t. It’s a risk evaluation, cost/benefit thing.

But all that is useless if you can’t trust your people.

I once had a guy who couldn’t resist clicking on links. Great data person, but if a link crossed his path…he’d click it.

So much fun during phishing exercises.

Pales in comparison to this though. An entire group of Petty Officers who secretly installed unauthorised WiFi on their ship so they could stream movies. Repeatedly lied about it and falsified logs. The background of the Chief Petty Officer?

“Marrero’s background is in Navy intelligence, and she earned a master’s degree in business administration with a concentration in information security and digital management”

Never forget the human factor.
