Ransomware updates

Some interesting figures here on ransomware events:

  • Only 4% of ransomware victims recover all their data
  • Only 61% recover data at all
  • Typical experience is 25 days of disrupted business

There are no end of products and services to defend/protect against this. But how many decades have we had disaster recovery and business continuity plans that include the phrase ‘…restore from backup…’?

Can you restore your business critical infrastructure and systems and load it with recent data in well under 25 days?

Where are budget and resources best deployed? The ability for your team to do that - or to defend against a user clicking on a link they shouldn’t?

I have my thoughts…

Good to see a drop in attacks YoY, but techniques tend to filter down to the less capable over time.

Ransomware corrupts data, making restoration harder
Smash and grab raids don’t leave time for careful encryption
