Potential new data laws

The Sun and heatwave seem to have left the North. I think I was on a video call and missed it.

My mood has not improved by reading the Governments initial response on new Data Laws.

New data laws to boost British business, protect consumers and seize the benefits of Brexit
Data Reform Bill will increase financial penalties for those pestering people with nuisance calls and minimise number of annoying cookie pop-ups people see on the internet.

Adequacy must be at risk with an approach like this? Especially in the current climate. Disappointing, and yet unsurprising, that there seems to be an ‘It’ll be fine and it’ll be great so we’ll do it’ approach. Along with taking the teeth out of governance and oversight.

The Open Rights Group are quite scathing as well.

Brace yourselves: new UK data laws are coming
The Government have just announced their plans to gut the UK General Data Protection Regulation.

Still. Enough for this week and on to the weekend #whatconsequences.
