More critical thinking needed

This is frustrating.

ChatGPT will now remember -- and forget -- things you tell it to | TechCrunch
OpenAI’s ChatGPT chatbot is getting a new feature that allows it to remember and forget specific facts and details.

Tech Leaders really need to start spelling out what things are, and are not. But this is all over my news this evening. No questioning or explanation - like the toothbrush botnet.

GenAI/LLMs do not have a memory. That’s not how they work. A very large store of data, an ‘algorithm’ trained on that data and a large amount of computing power to quickly guesstimate what the response should be to your prompt. In really, really, really simple terms.

The ‘memory’ will be OpenAI building a profile on you from the data you share through your account.

“Now, one imagines that ChatGPT could, over time, accumulate a lot of sensitive personal details in its memory, especially considering that the memory feature is switched on by default. OpenAI acknowledges the possibility — and also says that it might use memories to improve its models, with a carve-out exception for ChatGPT business customers and users who opt out.”

Good grief
