Meta at it again
I gave up any Meta accounts a while ago. Partly because they’re quite despicable, but also because…it’s just adverts. But this is a really ‘unusual’ way of complying with EU privacy requirements if you want to opt out of Meta using your data for training their GenAI.
Only Europe getting notified, of course.
“The company’s email says that it will remove your data from its AI training “if your objection is honoured,” suggesting that this is not automatic. When you click on the link to object, you are asked to state your reason. Both of these are legally dubious, since they give the impression that you need to come up with some kind of justification for your request. In fact, in these circumstances, where a company is using your data for its own commercial interests and nothing else, it must comply with an opt-out demand.”
Perfect would have been opt-in. Dodgy would have been ‘uncheck this box’. This is really not great.
But quite a lot of data can be collected before the inevitable slap on the wrist.
