Databricks launch Free Dolly

I’ve been metaphorically rolling my eyes quite a bit when in discussions about AI recently (or to be more precise LLMs), because the hype cycle is super strong right now.

This is REALLY interesting from Databricks though. They’ve released Dolly 2.0 as an open source LLM for research and commercial use.

Free Dolly: Introducing the World’s First Truly Open Instruction-Tuned LLM
Introducing Dolly, the first open-source, commercially viable instruction-tuned LLM, enabling accessible and cost-effective AI solutions.

That’s where you start to be less reliant on a public cloud solution (I’m tired can’t think of a better phrase) and mitigate security and infosec issues. That’s where you can start fine tuning for your own edge cases which really helps to move towards answering the question “But what do we use it for?”.
