Data centres need a lot of power

Hmm. So this is interesting reading as I was mulling this over earlier this week

The answer to AI’s energy needs could be blowing in the wind
Can offshore wind farms feed power-hungry AI data centers?

AI needs a lot of power so we use wind farms…simple.

➡️ You’re in competition with national infrastructure that needs to decarbonise energy sources. That’s a tricky tightrope. Tech companies are already seeming a little out of touch right now

Apple apologises for iPad ad criticised as ‘destruction of the human experience’
Advert featuring huge hydraulic press crushing cultural objects struck wrong note with many

➡️ You can’t get into wind farms yourself as that would be silly. So better to partner with one of the renewable companies. It needs to be worthwhile on their end.

➡️ You have to compete for the offshore licenses. That’s multiple billions, plus running and maintenance costs.

I will keep banging the drum - these are crazy costs piling up…for what? What’s the balancing revenue on the other end? The advertising money tree is not going to keep funding this surely?
