Cloud and SaaS strategy

This an interesting article. A lot of the Tech World seems to be going through a “Oh look at the shiny thing!” with AI at the moment. Its going to help us search ‘better’, and ‘produce things better’. Cost and Quality are not really covered in too much detail (unless your AI makes a mistake in a demo and wipes a good few billion off your value for a short time…).

The Four Horsemen of the Tech Recession
Tech is increasingly divorced from the real economy thanks to the COVID hangover and Apple’s App Tracking Transparency

It’s also good to think about the recent past and potential future. Don’t get tunnel vision.

I’ve started thinking a lot about Cloud and SaaS in general and this article has added to those thoughts. A lot of ‘What if?’ questions:

  • What if X went away?
  • How would you move from Y to Z?
  • What would Z be?
  • What are the acceptable cost base changes?

ATT is also mentioned in that article - and I agree that the impact has probably been underestimated. What is not mentioned, is regulatory legislation and customers increasing their knowledge about the use of data. It’s a good bet that’s not going to lessen. So having a strong data plan is going to be even more important:

  • What data?"
  • Whose data? (Legal action against AI companies are in the early stages)"
  • How much will it cost to store and move?"
  • Value? Is the business actually using it or is it like keeping PST files back in the day as a comfort blanket?

I don’t have all the answers right now. But I want to be thinking about them before I really need them.
