Browsers instead of Apps

I find myself using browsers rather than apps more and more nowadays (not Chrome though). Information security and privacy is always at the front of my mind - more so personally.

An example - for the Trenitalia app I selected ‘Do not consent’ twice when I signed up. Three times actually but one option was for trips from France. No idea, I’m never getting a train from France to Italy but it was easy to deselect. I can’t get back to that screen so no screenshot. But it was simple enough. Three screen taps.

The screenshots below are for the ‘Trainline’ app in the UK. I’m going to be honest I can’t remember if I have an account. I think I do as the app is installed on my phone*. But I don’t know because I have to go through the privacy policy nonsense first.

There is a vendor list option where you can deselect the vendors (761) or you go into each individually. Nobody sane is going to do that.

Most people will go ‘Hell no’ and hit confirm my choices.

That’s not good enough for a product. Beware that people are getting wiser about their data. Do better.

*Its no longer installed
